BEAM PHASE SPACE DETERMINATION AT 60 GeV IN THE SLC LINAC ’

نویسنده

چکیده

The procedure for determining the six-dimensional phase space volume of high energy beams in the SLAC Linear Collider (SLC) requires multiple transverse profile and lattice measurements. The standard use of these measurements to determine the emittance and betatron functions is reviewed, and complications from anomalous dispersion are included. Anomalous dispersion influences betatron matching of the beams to downstream systems and affects the measurement of energy spectra. Techniques to measure the full beam sigma matrix and the corresponding TWISS parameters of beams with sub-100 pm sizes, one centimeter dispersions and 0.2% energy spectra are outlined.

- ENERGY MATCHING OF 1 . 2 GEV POSITRON BEAM c TO THE SLC DAMPING RING

Positrons collected at the SLC positron source are transported over a 2-km path at 220 MeV to be reinjected into the linac for acceleration to 1.2 GeV, the energy of the emittance damping ring. Since the positron bunch length is a significant fraction of a cycle of the linac-accelerating RF, the energy spread at 1.2 GeV is considerably larger than the acceptance of the linac-toring (LTR) t rans...

Slc Energy Spectrum Monitor Using Synchrotron Radiation’

The SLAC Liiac is being upgraded for the use in the SLAC Linear Collider (SLC). The improved Linac must accelerate electron and positron bunches from 1.2 GeV to 50 GeV while producing output energy spectra of about 0.2 %. The energy spectra must be maintained during operation to provide for good beam transmission and to minimize chromatic effects in the SLC ARCs and Find Focus. The energy spect...

Slc Beam Dynamics Issues

The Stanford Linear Collider (SLC)1*2 accelerates ingle bunches of electrons and positrons to 47 GeV per beam and collides them with small beam sizes and at high currents. The beam emittances and intensities required for present operation have significantly extended traditional beam quality limits. The electron source produces over lo1 1 ein each of two bunches. The damping rings provide couple...

Measuremexts of Longitudinal Phase Space in the Slc Linac’

In-the Stanford Linear Collider the beam leaves a damping ring and then enters the Ring-to-Linac (RTL) transfer line. In the RTL it is compressed in length by a factor of 10 by means of an rf section, with which a longitudinally correlated energy variation is induced in the beam, and a following beam line which has non-zero momentum compaction. The compressed beam then enters the linac proper. ...

The High-gradient S-band Linac for Initial I. Acceleration of the Slc Intense

Although short lengths of S-band standing-wave, disk-loaded waveguide have been successfully RF-processed to accelerating gradients equivalent to about 175 MeV/m in a traveling-wave structure, the 20 MeV/m gradient of the SLC 50 GeV linac has been the highest gradient S-band accelerator in operation. However, the 1.5 m traveling-wave constant impedance capture section for the SLC positron sourc...
